Is there an Uber Driver Strike happening?

Here's what we've been hearing from drivers...

Uber Driver Strike on Earnings, Tips, and Treatment

Is there an Uber Driver Strike happening?

We've had lots of questions from drivers on the supposed "Uber Driver Strike" so we wanted share some of those questions and responses in case you're having similar questions. And if you want to stay in the loop on the strike, use the Chat feature on our iOS or Android app.

Is SherpaShare involved?

No. SherpaShare DOES NOT endorse the driver strike being currently discussed on social media for the weekend of October 16-18. SherpaShare has no affiliation with any of its organizing or organizers. SherpaShare is an independent dashboard that "helps drivers earn the most from their trips".

Who's organizing and why?

There seems to be a vocal group of Uber drivers who are helping organize this. While there have been many calls for strikes before, according to our drivers, this seems to be one of the larger efforts to mobilize. The event is being posted on social media and on our driver chat. (That's why we're posting this)

The reason stated, as seen on the below flyer, is "For Better Mileage Rates", "For An In App Tip Option", and "For Your Livelihood"

What do drivers think about this proposal?

As mentioned, we have had many drivers asking us about this which seems to show that many have heard about this already on social media and are not really sure how to respond. (Thanks for asking us, we appreciate the check in!)

We posed a question to a handful of our community members to get a better pulse on what's happening. We realize the proposal is getting a huge amount of attention (We want to hear from you!) The common response from several folks was not pro-strike. Here are some of the comments:

  • I will continue driving Uber & Lyft and hopefully capitalize on fewer drivers
  • I won't be participating but I'll be there in spirit
  • I will not participate we are independent workers and my goal is to get people around. The strike will not work. They tried multiple times it never works
  • Personally I don't think it will ever work. They can't coordinate everyone to strike at the same time, and we're independent contractors it makes no sense...
  • I would never ask others to strike for me. If we are going to strike, then it needs to be on a permanent basis. One weekend isn't going to do much, if others fill the gap...We all need to make our own individual decision on what our time is worth to us.
  • I will not be running Uber during the period involved. I will be driving Lyft however.

Will this strike have any impact?

Read the comments above, but from what we've heard objectively, most drivers are not optimistic about it creating any change.

If not via strike, what's another way to feel empowered?

We set ourselves up for this but of course there are lots of good options. The saying "information is power" could not be more true in this case. If you want to optimize your work so you can maximize your earnings while driving, tracking earnings and expenses, choosing optimal driving times and locations, are all good options. You can do that with SherpaShare for example on your driver dashboard. Disclaimer: You'll need to create a free account.

How can I find out more or follow the strike conversation in real-time?

If you do want to follow the developments (who's in, who's out, who's talking about it) you can do so on the driver chat on the SherpaShare app, which currently has tens of thousands of drivers...
